About Largs

A View to Arran from Largs. The Pencil, a local landmark in Largs.

"The town of Largs has a rich history linked to the Vikings and this is celebrated each year with the Vikingar Festival. The Pencil monument is a structure built to mark a Scottish naval victory over King Haco of Norway in 1263 that saw the complete withdrawal of the Vikings from here. History apart, there are many activities for you to engage in during your stay in Largs. There are golf courses, many throughout Ayrshire and some of the best championship courses at that."

"If you're into sailing, there is an excellent yacht haven just down the road where you can sail to Cumbrae, Rothesay or Arran and beyond. Threre are pony trekking facilities and we also have Kelburn Park, a woodland estate where you can spend the day taking gentle walks around the estate."

The Cumbrae Ferry arriving at Largs. A summer evening sunset in Largs.

"The local ferry services shall take you to either Cumbrae or, if you go along the road a little way, you can get another ferry from Wemyss Bay to the Isle of Bute. The paddle ship Waverley also calls here in the summer and can take you on a sailing tour around the islands and gives quite a unique experience."

"All in all, you'll be spoilt for choice in what to do during your visit to our pleaseant wee town and the surrounding area, so don't hesitate to make The Old Rectory your base to explore from."
